Shetland Food Festival 2012 will take place from 2-11 November 2012
The 2011 Festival was a great success. We were delighted to welcome Scottish Chef of the Year, Neil Forbes to the Food Theatre this year. Neil, along with some of our local chefs, cooked up a variety of tasty dishes using mainly local produce. The Producers’ Market, which sits alongside the Food Theatre, brought together many new and returning producers to the Festival in what was the biggest Producers’ Market yet.
Many new events held in 2011 were a great success. The highlights included:
- Make Your Own Cheese for Christmas - Shetland Cheese Ltd invited participants to their creamery to make their own cheese in time for Christmas. This event was so popular that Jay had to put on three more workshops.
- Make a Tammie Norrie Snowman - The Shetland Fudge Company held special workshops for children where they were able to make their very own Tammie Norrie Snowman (for those who don’t know what a Tammie Norrie is it’s the local name for a Puffin!).
- A Tasty Tour of Unst - This was one of the most successful events held in 2011 and sold out within days. Participants were treated to a mystery tour of Unst enjoying a variety of local produce and some unique sights and sounds along the way. The tour ended with an amazing buffet provided by the North Unst Public Hall.
Of course our regular events were just as popular too. The Bannock Making Workshops gave participants the chance to master the art of making traditional Shetland bannocks; and the Fish Market and Electronic Auction Tour gave participants the chance the see the range and quality of seafood landed, bought and sold on the Lerwick Fish Market.
A large number of restaurants, cafés and takeaways took part in the Festival too by putting on special menus and dishes celebrating local produce.
The organisers would like to thank everybody who took part in the Festival and hope to see you again for the 2012 event!
